Material correction log

20 entries

EO 12839 senior-position target

The guide described a ten-percent cut in senior-position headcount. The signed order instead required at least ten percent of all eliminated positions to come from SES, GS-15 and GS-14 levels or equivalent. The GAO publication date in the timeline was also corrected to August 26, 1996.

EO 12837 GAO report date and implementation

The timeline dated the cited GAO report to October 29, 1993; GAO dates it November 17, 1993. The explanation now distinguishes the ordered definition of administrative expenses from OMB’s actual estimated expense base.

Clinton primary-source link identity

Four guides (EO 13015, EO 13027, EO 13039 and EO 13040) labeled a citation as their own order but linked a neighboring order’s document. Each now links the verified exact text. The same source-link correction was made for EO 13102 and EO 13131.

EO 13947 succession and topic

The July 24 drug-pricing guide was classified as immigration and linked a later CMS model without explaining that EO 13948 section 5 expressly revoked the July order. The guide now uses the health-policy topic and distinguishes the successor policy and CMS rescission.

EO 13846 research stage

The guide remained at signed-text stage despite Treasury OFAC designations expressly using EO 13846 in 2025 and 2026. It now links those actions and the implementation FAQs as later evidence.

EO 13133 and EO 13220 source identity

Two supplementary citations pointed to neighboring executive orders rather than the orders named on their guides. The EO 13133 link now reaches its published Federal Register text; the EO 13220 link now reaches its own GovInfo text. The page narratives were not derived from those incorrect documents.

EO 13516 signing date

The guide's fact box and timeline gave October 28, 2009. The published Federal Register record identifies November 2, 2009 as the signing date. The publication date is separate.

EO 13628 and related-order labels

The guide labeled EO 13716 as a full revocation. It only partly revoked EO 13628; EO 13846 later revoked the remainder. Other inferred links in this batch were narrowed where they described a partial action or a successor's revocation as a full revocation.

EO 13167 publication stage

The guide incorrectly said its Federal Register publication link was unverified. The published record matches EO 13167, its full title and its September 15, 2000 signing date; the link and stage now reflect that record.

EO 12998 scope

The guide previously said this order revised the Commerce succession list. The Federal Register text shows it instead added a presidential designation exception to the existing order, subject to law.

EO 13787 status

The guide previously said only that the Justice Department succession order was later superseded. It now records that EO 14136 expressly revoked and replaced EO 13787 on January 3, 2025 and links the replacement order.

EO 13166 and EO 13169 titles

The index records used descriptive or truncated labels. They now use the complete official titles, “Improving Access to Services for Persons With Limited English Proficiency” and “Assistance to Small Business Exporters and Dislocated Workers.”

EO 13155 and EO 13158 titles

The index records truncated EO 13155 and used a descriptive label for EO 13158. They now use the official titles, “Access to HIV/AIDS Pharmaceuticals and Medical Technologies” and “Marine Protected Areas.”

EO 13148 and EO 13149 titles

The index records truncated both titles. They now use the complete official titles, “Greening the Government Through Leadership in Environmental Management” and “Greening the Government Through Federal Fleet and Transportation Efficiency.”

EO 13142 title

The index record omitted punctuation and misspelled “Classified” in the order title. It now uses the official title, “Amendment to Executive Order 12958—Classified National Security Information.”

EO 12852 status

The guide previously described the council as expiring on June 30, 1999. It now distinguishes the end of the final extension from EO 13138’s express revocation of EO 12852 as amended on September 30, 1999.

Editorial changelog

These entries describe navigation, labeling and research-presentation improvements. They are not corrections to executive-order records.

  1. September 24, 2026 — 107-guide re-audit

Rechecked all 59 signed-text guides for later official evidence, corrected evidence stages where specific events were established, reviewed all 107 topic assignments and related-order labels, and retained one dated revised event per guide.

  2. October 1, 2026 — order-page repetition and official-text pass

Removed repeated before-order context from the shared order template where signed-order action rows can provide the distinct explanation. Added section-specific directions for five 2003 orders verified against their official text, and corrected two neighboring-order citations. Outstanding claim-level reviews remain in the dated batch ledger.

  3. September 24, 2026 — research label and navigation audit

Reclassified 171 guides with repeated template text or a source archive named as a lead agency as signed-text reviews until an order-specific editorial pass is completed; corrected 16 railway emergency-board topics, narrowed inferred relationship labels and moved the plain-English answer above research metadata. The affected routes are documented in the dated audit files.

  4. September 23, 2026 — first-100 audit

Matched all 55 target Federal Register publication records to order number, title and signing date; corrected inferred relationship labels and generated archive metadata from the 1,602-record inventory. No new update events were added for the same-day revisions.

  5. September 25, 2026: explanatory guides and consent defaults

Published ten sourced explainers covering executive-order basics, counts, legal limits, document types, tariffs, birthright citizenship, first-day actions, Supreme Court rulings, federal pay and office closures. Linked the pages from matching guides and Topics; production Google tags now receive regional denied consent defaults before loading. A European regulations message for eoexplained.com is published in AdSense; the account-wide advertising consent-mode switch is enabled, while the separate analytics switch remains off.

  6. Search-first layout upgrade

Moved archive search into the homepage’s first screen, consolidated headline statistics, grouped navigation and footer links, added persistent filter chips, made the complete archive progressively rendered and moved each guide’s plain-English explanation ahead of supporting detail.

  7. Correction program release

Replaced unsupported universal research claims with evidence-aware labels, consolidated 684 legacy topic labels into 14 controlled topics with permanent redirects, generated complete initial HTML, reduced the archive initial result set, simplified navigation, removed inactive advertising placeholders and added baseline security headers.

  8. Editorial and image audit

Generated a deduplicated review queue in batches of 10, a complete 439-image inventory, taxonomy counts and corpus validation results without silently upgrading any guide’s evidence state.

  9. Archive consistency review

Added explicit page-level review dates across both Trump collections, rebuilt all 220 first-term static fallbacks from their researched records, strengthened permanent record checks and connected existing Biden artwork to social-sharing metadata.

  10. Clinton research batch 37

How reports are handled

A reported issue is checked against primary or authoritative material. If the substance changes, the correction log records the change; if the update affects only navigation, labeling or presentation, it belongs in the editorial changelog.
