Executive Order 13245: Providing an Order of Succession Within the Department of Labor

President: George W. Bush

Set a twelve-office line of succession to act as Labor Secretary when both the Secretary and Deputy Secretary were unavailable, subject to presidential discretion and federal vacancies law.

Status: Revoked.

Is Executive Order 13245 still in effect? No. Revoked December 23, 2016; successor order established.

What does Executive Order 13245 do?

The order assigned these duties: Listed Labor officials — Act as Secretary in the specified order; President — Depart from the order where federal vacancies law allows.

Verified the order replaced EO 10513, was amended by EO 13261, and was expressly revoked by EO 13755 in 2016. The current Labor internal delegation is treated as later agency implementation, not the presidential order.
