President: Donald J. Trump

Created a temporary commission to review the federal response to drug addiction and the opioid crisis.

Status: In effect. Is Executive Order 13784 still in effect? Yes. Executive Order 13784 remains in effect. See Federal Register record.

What does Executive Order 13784 do?

EO 13784 established the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis to assess federal funding, treatment, prevention and enforcement and recommend improvements. It required an interim report within 90 days and a final report, subject to an extension from the chair. The commission submitted its final report on November 1, 2017. The order provided for termination 30 days after that report unless the President extended it; the reviewed sources did not establish an extension. The report was advice, not a direct change to treatment law or funding.

Administration position: The commission’s findings and recommendations were its own assessment; the order did not enact them.
