Executive Order 13797: Establishment of Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy

President: Donald J. Trump

Established a White House trade and manufacturing policy office to advise the President and coordinate projects.

Status: In effect. Is Executive Order 13797 still in effect? Yes. Executive Order 13797 remains in effect. See Federal Register record.

What does Executive Order 13797 do?

EO 13797 established the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy within the White House Office, led by a presidentially selected director. It was to advise on trade and manufacturing strategy, liaise with Commerce and help improve domestic procurement and hiring policy under EO 13788. This was an organizational directive, not a new trade statute or tariff authority. EO 13788 was later revoked by EO 14005. The official sources checked do not establish that the 2017 office continues to operate today.

Administration position: Economic growth and manufacturing were policy goals; the office had an advisory and coordination role.
