Executive Order 13977: Protecting Law Enforcement Officers, Judges, Prosecutors, and Their Families
President: Donald J. Trump
Directed federal reviews and protective measures concerning threats to law-enforcement officers, judges, prosecutors and their families.
Status: In effect. Is Executive Order 13977 still in effect? Yes. Executive Order 13977 remains in effect. See Federal Register record.
What does Executive Order 13977 do?
EO 13977 directed the Attorney General to review protection, deputation, information-removal and legislative options for covered officials and families. It did not itself create a new federal crime or private cause of action. Congress later enacted the Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Act, which addressed protection of federal judges' personal information; the reviewed sources do not establish that the statute resulted from this order.
Later evidence reviewed September 27, 2026: Congress enacted later judicial-security protections. This guide does not claim the order caused that statute or that every ordered review was publicly released.
Before and after
Before the order
Existing statutes and U.S. Marshals Service programs governed protection of the judiciary and federal officials.
After the order
The order required executive reviews and proposals rather than instantly changing criminal or privacy law.
Congress later enacted judge-security and personal-information protections in separate legislation.
