Executive Order 12869: Continuance of Certain Federal Advisory Committees

President: Bill Clinton

Continued ten presidential advisory committees and reestablished a science-and-technology council through September 1995; EO 12974 superseded it.

Status: Superseded. Is Executive Order 12869 still in effect? No. Executive Order 12869 was superseded. See Executive Order 12974: Continuance of Certain Federal Advisory Committees.

What does Executive Order 12869 do?

EO 12869 continued ten named presidential advisory committees through September 1995 and reestablished a science-and-technology advisory council. The science-council provision was short-lived: EO 12882 revoked section 2 in November 1993 and separately established PCAST. The remaining continuation framework was superseded by EO 12974 in September 1995. These orders concerned committee authority and duration, not regulatory powers.

Administration position: The order found continued committee advice to be in the public interest. It did not guarantee that every committee would remain unchanged or continue beyond the stated date.
