What does Executive Order 12965 do?
EO 12965 extended the President's Council on Sustainable Development through June 29, 1997 unless further extended. The council delivered its first consensus recommendations in 1996 and a progress report in January 1997, during that extension. It later issued a final report in May 1999 after further changes to its charter. These were advisory recommendations, not binding environmental standards. EO 13138 revoked the parent order as amended later in 1999.
