President: Bill Clinton

Added a Joint Staff member to the US membership of the Joint Mexican–United States Defense Commission.

Status: Completed/expired. Is Executive Order 13082 still in effect? No. Executive Order 13082 is completed or expired. See Federal Register record.

What does Executive Order 13082 do?

EO 13082 amended the 1942 order establishing the US side of the Joint Mexican–United States Defense Commission. It specified one member each from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Joint Staff, selected by the Defense Secretary, who also chooses the US chair and may appoint alternates. This is a membership change, not a new defense treaty or a decision to deploy forces. The National Archives records the amendment but does not establish current commission operations.

Administration position: The order defines US commission membership; it does not describe contemporary US–Mexico military activities.
