Executive Order 13093: American Heritage Rivers, Amending Executive Order 13061 and 13080

President: Bill Clinton

Raised the American Heritage Rivers designation ceiling from ten to up to twenty and changed the matching advisory provision.

Status: Revoked. Is Executive Order 13093 still in effect? No. Executive Order 13093 was revoked. See Federal Register record.

What does Executive Order 13093 do?

EO 13093 made a narrow numerical change to the American Heritage Rivers initiative: it replaced “ten” with “up to 20” in the designation provision of EO 13061 and in the recommendation provision of EO 13080. Three days later, President Clinton separately designated fourteen river groupings in Proclamation 7112. The amendment did not itself designate a river, create a new land restriction or appropriate money. EO 13080, the advisory-committee order, was revoked in 2001; that did not automatically cancel the separate designations.

Administration position: Changing a ceiling is different from designating a river or guaranteeing federal funding.
