Executive Order 13592: Improving American Indian and Alaska Native Educational Opportunities and Strengthening Tribal Colleges and Universities
President: Barack Obama
Created an Education Department initiative and interagency working group for Native students and tribal colleges.
Status: Revoked.
Is Executive Order 13592 still in effect? No. Revoked and replaced by EO 14049 in 2021; that successor order was itself revoked in January 2025.
What does Executive Order 13592 do?
EO 13592 reorganized federal Native education policy around tribal consultation, culturally responsive schooling, college access and support for Tribal Colleges and Universities. It established a White House Initiative at the Education Department and an interagency working group. EO 14049 expressly revoked and replaced it in 2021; EO 14148 then revoked EO 14049 in 2025, leaving statutory Indian education programs and agency consultation duties rather than this executive structure.
Later evidence reviewed September 23, 2026: EO 14148 revoked EO 14049. Federal Register — EO 14148. This later record documents the stated step; it does not by itself establish every downstream agency action or legal outcome.
