Executive Order 13632: Establishing the Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force

President: Barack Obama

Created a HUD-led cabinet task force to coordinate resilient long-term rebuilding after Hurricane Sandy.

Status: Completed/expired. Is Executive Order 13632 still in effect? No. Executive Order 13632 is completed or expired. See Federal Register record.

What does Executive Order 13632 do?

EO 13632 brought federal departments together under the Housing Secretary to create a single long-term rebuilding strategy for the Sandy-affected region. The task force consulted state, local, tribal and community partners and issued 69 recommendations on infrastructure, housing, resilience and coordination. As the order required, it dissolved 60 days after the strategy appeared, on October 18, 2013; ongoing work shifted to FEMA, HUD and recovery-support agencies.

Administration position: The task force coordinated recovery but did not itself appropriate disaster aid, displace state and local decisions or waive grant, procurement and environmental requirements.
