Executive Order 13735: Providing an Order of Succession Within the Department of the Treasury
President: Barack Obama
Set a line of officials who could act as Treasury Secretary when both the Secretary and Deputy Secretary were unavailable.
Status: Revoked — by EO 14137.
Is Executive Order 13735 still in effect? No. EO 14137 revoked it.
What does Executive Order 13735 do?
EO 13735 listed Treasury officials who could act as Secretary when both the Secretary and Deputy Secretary were unavailable, subject to the Federal Vacancies Reform Act. EO 14137 expressly revoked it on January 3, 2025 and supplied a new sequence. EO 14148 revoked that replacement on January 20, 2025. Revoking a replacement does not itself revive the earlier order, so EO 13735 should not be treated as the current Treasury succession list.
Before and after
Before the order
EO 13246 and a 2002 memorandum supplied the prior line.
After the order
The 2016 sequence applied until its express 2025 replacement.

Legal and source detail
How it works legally
The Federal Vacancies Reform Act and 31 USC 301 govern acting service. Revocation of a superseding order does not by itself revive the earlier order.
