President: Donald J. Trump
Imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on certain Indian imports in response to India’s purchases of Russian oil.
Status: In effect. Is Executive Order 14329 still in effect? Yes. Executive Order 14329 remains in effect. See Federal Register record.

What does Executive Order 14329 do?
The tariff was set to take effect 21 days after August 6, 2025, with specified in-transit and other exclusions. Commerce was to monitor other countries’ Russian oil purchases.
Official records rechecked October 2, 2026: EO 14384 removed the additional 25 percent duty on covered Indian goods entered on or after February 7, 2026 and terminated the specified tariff headings. It also directs Commerce to monitor whether India resumes Russian-oil imports. The change ended this added India duty; it did not revoke EO 14329 in full.
Reading the operative provisions of Executive Order 14329
EO 14329 imposed an additional 25 percent duty on certain imports from India in response to India’s purchases of Russian oil. It directs agencies to identify covered products and administer the additional rate under the order’s terms. The Federal Register text of EO 14329 includes the scope and effective date. It is not a 25 percent duty on every Indian product without regard to exceptions or later changes.
The order’s rationale concerns India’s energy trade with Russia, but the customs obligation applies to imported goods described in the order, not directly to Indian oil purchases. Importers need to check product classification, origin, exclusions and entry date. The stated policy reason and the legal trigger for a customs duty should be kept distinct.
A later Federal Register modification cited on this page changes the treatment of the duty. That subsequent action must be read together with EO 14329 to determine which products or circumstances are covered now. Emergency tariffs can also be affected by court decisions about the underlying authority. Before and after
Before the order
Before EO 14329, EO 14066 prohibited imports of specified Russian-origin products, including crude oil and petroleum products. The 2025 order added a separate 25% duty on covered Indian goods after the President cited India's purchases of Russian oil.
After the order
EO 14384 removed the additional 25 percent duty on covered Indian goods entered on or after February 7, 2026 and terminated the specified tariff headings. It also directs Commerce to monitor whether India resumes Russian-oil imports. The change ended this added India duty; it did not revoke EO 14329 in full.
