What does Executive Order 13776 do?

EO 13776 instructed the Attorney General to establish a Justice Department Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety. Its assigned work included strategies on violent crime, drug trafficking and immigration, review of gaps in law, and assessment of crime data. Justice announced the task force on February 28, 2017. The order required at least one report within a year and annual reports while the group existed, but left dissolution to the Attorney General. The official sources checked do not establish that it still meets.

Administration position: The order’s description of crime trends and expected effect was an administration policy rationale; the task force was directed to make recommendations.
