Status: Completed/expired. Is Executive Order 13794 still in effect? No. Executive Order 13794 is completed or expired. See Federal Register record.
What does Executive Order 13794 do?
EO 13794 created the American Technology Council, chaired by the President, to coordinate federal technology strategy and digital service delivery. Its remit expressly excluded national-security systems and did not displace agency or OMB authority. Council work fed into federal IT modernization planning during 2017. Section 8 of the order terminated both the order and council on January 20, 2021, so it should not be described as a current council.
Before and after
Before the order
Agencies and OMB already managed federal IT under existing law.
After the order
The council coordinated modernization planning until its built-in sunset.
