Executive Order 12970: Further Amendment to Executive Order No. 12864

President: Bill Clinton

Extended the United States Advisory Council on the National Information Infrastructure through June 1, 1996.

Status: Revoked. Is Executive Order 12970 still in effect? No. Executive Order 12970 was revoked. See Executive Order 13062: Continuance of Certain Federal Advisory Committees and Amendments to Executive Orders 13038 and 13054, Federal Register record.

What does Executive Order 12970 do?

EO 12970 extended the advisory council on the National Information Infrastructure through June 1, 1996. President Clinton discussed reports he had received from the council in February 1996, within the extended period. The remarks show the council continued advisory work, but do not prove that the extension caused the reports or conferred regulatory powers. EO 13062 revoked the parent order as amended in 1997.

Administration position: The order extended an advisory body; it did not regulate the internet, telecommunications providers or personal data.
