Executive Order 12974: Continuance of Certain Federal Advisory Committees

President: Bill Clinton

Continued 15 presidential advisory committees through September 1997, delegated their administrative oversight and closed two completed bodies.

Status: Superseded. Is Executive Order 12974 still in effect? No. Executive Order 12974 was superseded. See Federal Register record.

What does Executive Order 12974 do?

EO 12974 continued 15 named federal advisory committees through September 30, 1997. It assigned the listed sponsoring agencies most presidential functions under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, while retaining the annual report to Congress. It also revoked the completed Entitlement Reform Commission and Federal Fleet Conversion Task Force authorities. The 1997 EO 13062 superseded this two-year continuation with a new list; the 1995 order did not itself permanently charter any committee.

Administration position: The order kept advisory channels operating; it did not adopt every committee recommendation or give the committees regulatory power.
