Executive Order 13768: Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States

President: Donald J. Trump

Set interior immigration-enforcement priorities and directed DHS and Justice actions; revoked in 2021.

Status: Revoked — by EO 13993 on January 20, 2021.

Is Executive Order 13768 still in effect? No. EO 13993 revoked it in 2021.

What does Executive Order 13768 do?

EO 13768 directed DHS to prioritize specified removable people, expand enforcement partnerships, seek additional immigration officers and assess available civil penalties. It also directed officials to consider restricting certain federal grants to jurisdictions they deemed uncooperative, subject to law. Courts reviewed particular grant conditions. EO 13993 expressly revoked the order in 2021. EO 14159 and EO 14148 revoked EO 13993 in 2025 but did not expressly reinstate EO 13768; the later administration set separate immigration directives.

Administration position: Statements about sanctuary jurisdictions and public-safety effects were the administration’s claims, not findings independently established by the order.
