President: Donald J. Trump
Restricted purchases of Venezuelan government debt and certain collateral and equity transactions.
Status: In effect. Is Executive Order 13835 still in effect? Yes. Executive Order 13835 remains in effect. See Federal Register record.
What does Executive Order 13835 do?
EO 13835 added to the Venezuela national emergency by prohibiting US persons from buying debt owed to the Venezuelan government, dealing in debt pledged as collateral after the order, and certain transfers of equity interests in entities at least half government-owned. It built on EO 13808 and EO 13827. EO 13857 later amended the framework, and OFAC continues to list EO 13835 with changing general licenses. The exact rule for a particular bond or transaction depends on the current license and regulations.
