Executive Order 13808: Imposing Additional Sanctions With Respect to the Situation in Venezuela
President: Donald J. Trump
Restricted specified Venezuelan government and PdVSA debt, securities and dividends; OFAC licenses qualify application.
Status: In effect. Is Executive Order 13808 still in effect? Yes. Executive Order 13808 remains in effect. See Federal Register record.
What does Executive Order 13808 do?
EO 13808 prohibited US persons from specified dealings in new PdVSA debt over 90 days, other Venezuelan government debt over 30 days, new government equity, certain bonds and dividend distributions. It added to the Venezuela national emergency and allowed statutory, regulatory and license exceptions. OFAC still lists the order as a Venezuela sanctions authority and maintains changing general licenses. The precise legal treatment of any transaction therefore depends on the current license and regulations, not only the 2017 text.
