President: Bill Clinton

Set 1996 federal civilian salary schedules, military basic pay and related allowances under annual statutory adjustment authorities.

Status: Superseded. Is Executive Order 12984 still in effect? No. Executive Order 12984 was superseded. See Executive Order 13033: Executive Order 13033 of December 27, 1996.

What does Executive Order 12984 do?

EO 12984 prescribed 1996 civilian and uniformed-service pay schedules under annual statutory authorities. The Office of Personnel Management’s FY 1996 publication reproduced General Schedule rates adjusted by the order and said they applied from the first applicable pay period beginning on or after January 1, 1996. An individual’s actual pay still depended on position, grade, locality and other governing rules. EO 12990 later amended the uniformed-service provisions; EO 13033 superseded the annual schedules for 1997.
