What does Executive Order 13015 do?

EO 13015 formed a commission of up to 25 public- and private-sector experts, chaired by the Vice President, after major aviation accidents and security concerns. It was asked to recommend a domestic and international safety and security strategy and was initially limited to six months. The commission delivered its final report on February 12, 1997, including security, accident-reduction and air-traffic recommendations. EO 13062 then revoked the charter because its work was complete.

Administration position: The commission made recommendations; it did not itself regulate airlines, screen passengers or operate air-traffic control.
