Executive Order 13622: Authorizing Additional Sanctions With Respect to Iran
President: Barack Obama
Expanded sanctions on Iran’s petroleum, petrochemical and financial sectors and authorized correspondent-account restrictions.
Status: Revoked.
Is Executive Order 13622 still in effect? No. Revoked in January 2016 during JCPOA implementation; related measures were later reimposed under EO 13846.
What does Executive Order 13622 do?
EO 13622 implemented and expanded statutory Iran sanctions, including measures against significant dealings in Iranian petroleum, petrochemicals and certain financial transactions. EO 13716 revoked it when the United States implemented the nuclear agreement in January 2016. In 2018 the United States left that agreement and EO 13846 consolidated and reimposed many related restrictions under new authority; EO 13622 itself did not return.
Later evidence reviewed September 23, 2026: EO 13846 consolidated and reimposed related sanctions. Federal Register — EO 13846. The consolidated 2018 restrictions must be read with later amendments and licenses, not as an unchanged 2012 rule.
