Executive Order 13629: Establishing the White House Homeland Security Partnership Council

President: Barack Obama

Created a White House council to connect federal homeland-security priorities with state, local, tribal, nonprofit and private partners.

Status: Partly revoked. Is Executive Order 13629 still in effect? Partly. Executive Order 13629 remains in force in part. See Federal Register record.

What does Executive Order 13629 do?

EO 13629 established a White House Homeland Security Partnership Council and a deputy-level steering committee to build local partnerships for disaster response, counterterrorism and other security priorities. The steering committee was to nominate outside members and report annually. The order has not been expressly revoked, but the original council is not a current public-facing body; DHS and other agencies now conduct partnership work through later statutory and administrative structures.

Administration position: The council was advisory and coordinative; it did not give private members law-enforcement power, access to classified information by right or authority to spend federal funds.
