Executive Order 13645: Authorizing the Implementation of Certain Sanctions Set Forth in the Iran Freedom and Counter- Proliferation Act of 2012 and Additional Sanctions With Respect To Iran
President: Barack Obama
Implemented sanctions on Iran’s automotive sector, rial transactions and support for designated Iranian persons.
Status: Revoked — by EO 13716 in 2016.
Is Executive Order 13645 still in effect? No. EO 13716 revoked it in 2016.
What does Executive Order 13645 do?
EO 13645 implemented parts of the Iran Freedom and Counter-Proliferation Act and added sanctions authorities concerning Iran’s automotive sector, significant rial transactions, support for certain blocked persons, and specified corruption and censorship. EO 13716 revoked it on January 16, 2016 as part of nuclear-deal sanctions relief. EO 13846 reimposed relevant measures in 2018 under a new order, as the Treasury Department explains. Reimposition did not revive EO 13645 itself; current obligations require checking the later authorities and OFAC guidance.
